Just in time for the holiday season, Improv Electronics has made available for purchase its highly anticipated Boogie Board Rip LCD Writing Tablet in North America and Europe. In fact, the company has already begun shipping to addresses for all of the pre-purchases that were made last month through Brookstone.com, Amazon.com and improvelectronics.com (and boy, there were a lot).

Why is this tablet not made by Amazon, Apple or Samsung getting so much coverage?
Well, for one, its LCD display reacts to the included stylus, so you can write or sketch directly on to the screen. But what really separates it from everything else is that users can save anything worth keeping as a high-resolution,vector-PDF format file to view it on their computer. They can even edit the files in Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop and other illustration and image-editing programs. The Boogie Board Rip LCD Writing Tablet actually has enough internal memory to save close to 200 (typical) images, and files can be conveniently transferred by way of its USB cable.
Some additional fast facts:
• 9.5-in. writing surface (measured diagonally)
• Thin, durable, and lightweight construction
• Integrated stylus holder
• Erase lock button
• Rechargeable batteries with one week between charges under typical use
Extra bells and whistles
The Boogie Board Rip LCD Writing Table is being launched with optional Virtual Desktop Companion software, which users can download from improvelectronics.com. It’s a Microsoft compatible tool that expands the functionality of the tablet when connected to a PC in that users can view their notes and drawings on a computer monitor in real time, save the files directly to the computer, and share them via email, too.
There have been similar paperless LCD tablets before, but the Boogie Board Rip LCD Writing Tablet takes the cake with its so-easy-a-child-could-use-it simplicity, dynamic capabilities, and low price point ($129.99). What’s more, it’s an earth-friendly alternative to notebooks, legal pads, sketch pads, memo pads, and all other paper-based products that make the environmentally conscious cringe. The folks at Improv Electronics see the launch of this tablet as a major step toward moving to a paperless society.
Some extra history
